November 07: VJ Cynthia signing on.
Follow-up to yesterday's entry: our friend Ramon informed me that Michel Gondry is also responsible for most of Bjork's videos. (See I didn't know these things Mon-ra, hehe. Hi Nev!) Upon further research, I also learned that he directed my absolute, absolute favorite video of all time: Sugar Water (Cibo Matto). If you haven't seen it, download it here and get ready to see a work of pure genius.
Sugar...wohter.
Speaking of video directors, I've recently been taking notice of Kiriya Kazuaki's awesome work. (Arn can vouch for that, I let him sit through the entire UH3 dvd, which he loved of course!)
Kiriya directed wife Utada Hikaru's fantastic-looking videos. He's apparently a NY-trained photographer so I guess that explains the beautiful art direction and artful cinematography found in his work.
Incidentally, I can count my favorite music videos of all time on one hand :
1. "Sugar Water" (Cibo Matto), director: Michel Gondry 2. "Home" (Sean Lennon), director: Spike Jonze (all of Spike's videos are cool, come to think of it) 3. "Une Very Stylish Fille" (Dimitri from Paris), director: Olivier Kuntzel / Florence Deygas 4. "Coffee and TV" (Blur), director: Hammer & Tongs / Garth Jennings 5. "Clint Eastwood"(Gorillaz) director: Jamie Hewlett / Pete Candeland
(Hmm maybe there are more, I just can't think of them right now.)
What are your favorite videos?

great taste in music & videos, cyn. yeap, cibo is one of my fave bands here in ny, my friends and i used to religiously go to their shows. i even gave miho a rubber chicken at their cd release party at fez -- when was that, like 5-6 yrs ago? sugar water is pretty effin cool, too, huh? def'ly one of my old time faves as well. and spike jonze, he's really down to earth. i was very fortunate to have met him a few times (he's my old boss' son) and of course i tried so hard not to be the trembling, drooling fan that i am! haha .. thanks for showing me the vids, i'd already forgotten about them. maybe i'll drop by kim's video and see if they ever came out with a cibo dvd set. ::crossing fingers::

Hey Ate Cyn!
Michel Gondry said what he was trying to do with Sugar Water was make a visual palindrome. O diba? Didn't know the info about Mr. Utada, though. Cool! I love pa naman her videos din, though I don't know the names of her songs except traveling (which, though beautiful, I though had much too hyper editing; no chance to linger on the lush visuals :(). I love that video that's one shot where she's washing dishes and that freaky Tim Burton-ish one, too.
Pahiram ng DVD! :P hehe...

Yeah! Sugar Water is one of the coolest videos that I have ever seen. I also love that Bollywood inspired "Romeo" by Basement Jaxx.

Sugar Water has got to be one of my fave Cibbo track. I first heard it when the group played 'live' at 'The Bronze' club where Buffy (...the Vampire Slayer, circa 96-97) hangs out. Sarah, err, Buffy was in a trance and was dancing provocatively to the song... hence, the very next day, I had to track it down ;-)
