Skirts painted to look as if you can see through them are supposed to be all the rage in Tokyo. Now I don't know how true this is as I only got the pic and info from a forwarded e-mail, but in Japan, anything is possible ne?

This is actually the most conservative of the lot. (Click to enlarge)

Speaking of Japan, my friend Jenny is here on vacation from her studies at Sophia and last week we got together to catch up on kwento over Ostrich a la Poivre* at an African-themed restaurant called Moomba. I was wary about eating ostrich (aww the poor innocent bird!) but when the dish was served, I completely forgot I was eating poultry -- the pieces were dark and looked and tasted very much like beef. The difference is that it felt lighter in the tummy afterwards.

My dad got me a copy of Non-No: More Wedding, a voluminous Japanese bridal magazine whose clean layout and eye-pleasing visuals will make anyone forgive captions like We have just get married or Be a nice wedding, hehe. Arn and I are going crazy looking at the unique minimalist designs for gowns and groomswear, ceremony decor, and other nice stuff that we never saw in any of the local wedding rags (or even those thick American magazines -- except Martha Stewart's which always deserves a read-through). Galing lang.

Choco Chanel, anyone?

If you've been reading this blog long enough, you'll know that this is actually an unplanned follow up to my Kate Spade Cookies post of many many months ago.

And just when you thought we'd completely forgotten about the Mirror Project: [1] [2]

Everyone's been talking about Daredevil and Hero lately, but has anyone "noticed" Two Week's Notice at all? Anyway the only reason I'm mentioning it is that I stumbled upon this little tidbit that might be of interest to you film buffs: Alicia Witt who was June in Two Weeks played Alia Atreides in David Lynch's Dune. (Ahh, betcha didn't know that.)

Who woulda thunk it?

By the way: of all the movies we saw this first quarter, I liked Catch Me If You Can and Two Towers the most, and Arn says that Daredevil is the best comicbook superhero movie he's seen in the past two years.

I've always wanted but keep forgetting to blog about this:

ecosphere (8k image)

EcoSpheresTM are sealed saltwater microcosms harboring shrimp, algae and bacteria in a balanced, symbiotic environment -- a complete, self-contained and self-sustaining miniature world encased in glass.

Every chance you get to visit Hobbes in Greenbelt or that similar shop at The Fifth in Podium, make sure to peer into them. Those shrimp are really lucky, peace still reigns in their world.

Last Friday was mostly an excuse for Arn and me to be by ourselves, and indulge and spend *a little more* than usual. He picked me up early so we could choose a nice place and have dinner with no hassle. By the time we got to Greenbelt though, most restaurants were already booked. But MYLK wasn't. Remembering Dimaans' entry about the restaurant, we figured that sige na nga, we could give it a try. They had a Valentine's dinner menu that consisted of patÈd crostini and cream of spinach soup for starters, salad with feta cheese, a choice of fish or steak (guess who got which) as entrÈe and panna cotta with tea or coffee for dessert. Nooot baaaad.

Of course the very next day it was back to splitting tomato soup and one order of Jack-of-All-Trades at Kitchen for us. How can you go wrong with a satisfying combination that only costs P87.50/person (much less pa with the 30% discount card)?

Last week we also discovered, by accident, the refreshing green tea ice cream at Takas, the stall right in front of Starbucks in Galleria. Try it, it's yummy. (Hi Luis and Yvette)

Hey Adam, thanks for the vote of confidence. Yikes.

Sorry for the lack of *real* posts. I'll try to make up for it with this one.

So here's a recap of my week:
Monday, Tuesday and early-morning Wednesday were a blur of client briefings, last-minute artwork touch-ups, and messengerial errands*.

*side note - please bring color-coding back!!! I waste most of the day sitting in the car, my driving leg has gone numb.

Things were more relaxed yesterday when I accompanied Arn to his Comic Collective / Adarna-sponsored talk in Ateneo (thanks, Elbert).

Arn in his element.

It was nice to see and meet more of Arnold's readers plus Hey Comics regulars Carlos and Prof. Jamie (who turned out to be the cousin of my friend Ines who, incidentally is our friend Shiloah's boss at Summit! Small world-ness.)

On the wedding-planning front, let me just tell you that one thing I learned in the 2 months we've been preparing is that there are so many resources out there (whose rates won't make you fall off your seat) not even listed in the glossies' so-called bridal directories.

I had lunch with our friend Chiko last week and if I didn't give her detailed kwento about our plans, I wouldn't have learned that she's a walking repository of all things bride and beautiful. In just a snap she got our ceremony and reception music all planned out just the way we want it -- it also helps that we share the same taste when it comes to music. S'wonderful.

I've been hanging out lately at Paper-Girl's. If you're looking for unconventional ideas for invitations and other printed stuff, do not miss out on her funky collection.

Check out the ultra-cool TeeMuseum, currently featuring t-shirt designs by Cynthia Malaran and Andreas Lindkvist.

For local art flavor, drop by one of the KulturangKalye events, happening every Saturday of this month at Visayas Avenue, QC. KK is organized by artist Jess Santiago, our friend Halina's dad. (Site powered by Halina and J, of course.)
