Cool link time: check out the fabulous Inksurge by our friends Zoo and Jois!
*** Quark Henares' KEKA rocks! I'm not just saying this as a friend and ate to Quark but as someone who's stopped watching local cinema since, well, since I knew better not to. I also normally don't like watching dark comedies but Quark can always be trusted to make it a fun ride like he did with his Palanca-winning "A Date with Jao Mapa".
I won't tell you how the story goes as there are enough blogs that do that already. However I can tell you that Arn & I had so much fun identifying the instances that poke fun at all the things we love to hate in local cinema -- 80s style production numbers, telenovela acting, etc. Arn even pointed out an homage to "Batch 81" (children of the 80s, did you see it?). Heck it even managed to bring out good performances, IMHO, from an ex-Ang TV kid and a former Streetboy.
So, if you trust my judgement please go and watch Keka. Our friends worked really hard and deserve a good night's rest knowing that their baby's out there being appreciated.
*** My G4's Apple Studio Display broke down a couple of days ago so I can't work at all this week. (Hmm... it could be a sign from above to relax and take a break). Come to think of it, yesterday was the first time in ages that I did nothing all day but meet up with friends: lunch was girl-bonding time with Tippi and Sheila, and dinner was a long-overdue catching-up session with my Arn, Ramon, Neva, Quark and Lia. Why can't there be more days like this?
*** Aww, thank you to everyone who expressed support for Arnold's new website! Your appreciation makes all the hard work worthwhile.

If I wasn't old enough to be, ahem, responsible, I would happily blow last week's earnings on these must-reads* for the year:
*in my humble opinion
Blankets by Craig Thompson. I've been waiting for this book ever since Arn gave me the heartbreaking Goodbye, Chunky Rice three years ago. Now that it's finally out, the wedding budget says we can't afford it. (Hmm, maybe we should include it in our registry?)
BOP! (More Box Office Poison Stories) by Alex Robinson. If you read my rave about the original (gigantic) collection, you'll understand how excited I am about this upcoming release.
100 Demons by Lynda Barry (who is 1/4 Filipino, by the way). Our friend Ani generously lent us her copy just the other week and as soon as I read, oh, the first page, I knew that our bookshelf just won't do without it.
Here, check out the strip where she names the Aswang as one of her "demons".
*** Have you congratulated Dean and Ian for winning their nth Palancas yet? Go now, go!

Aha, finally I can squeeze in some blogging into this crazy schedule.
*** So, I was able to drop by Tippi's to have myself measured* for the gown yesterday afternoon. It feels great knowing that one of my best, most trusted friends is taking care of my dream gown but yii-kes, that also means I have to watch my diet from now on lest my measurements fluctuate towards the big day. I swear it was much easier keeping them pounds off years ago!
*Yep, right after my wonderful client Pam stuffed me with carpaccio, pizza, and pasta at a meeting. What timing, huh? (:
*** I've also been working with my friend Itsy's cousin Maria on her website. She's an NYC-based interior designer so if you're looking for high quality work for your interiors (or if you're an international headhunter... ok, just taking my chances), why don't you drop her a line?

Psst, the missing elephant can now be found here.
*** Arn & I are really excited about watching kuya twin Quark's upcoming movie Keka, thanks to our long overdue catching-up session with Monra* last week. We hardly watch local films but we know that this is going to be *just* great.
(Pic swiped from Chris' blog via Alia.)
*By the way, did you know that our friend Monra has a Bacon number of 4??? Wow!
*** Speaking of good things to watch out for, our friend Carl has some exciting news as well so keep it tuned at the Carverhouse.

Remember my blog about a fun, young adult novel called Orange sometime ago? Months later, I am pleased to announce that the tripod address has been replaced by a hosted server with it's own domain and that the author Joey has evolved from being a one-dimensional name to a 3D person having coffee with Arn and me, heh. Check out the cool animated preview starring main characters Archie and Anna.
*** And speaking of Anna, the time has come to add this to the old Design Portfolio - Pop Artist Collection Extravaganza:
Anna Fegi - Straight Ahead. (... doesn't she look much better with rebonded hair?)
