 Kasaysayan 1: Course Outline
JANUS
Roman god of beginnings and endings.
He is usually represented with two heads, one facing backward,
the other facing forward. Janus symbolizes the principle
of looking back to the past to understand the present in
                      order to shape the future.

This course uses the Janus perspective for purposes of understanding
the social dilemmas besetting the Filipino nation by clarifying
the originating causes of poverty, inequity, peasant landlessness,
social and civil conflict, indigenous deculturalization and ethnic
              strife.
Kasaysayan 1 will elaborate on the historical dimension of these
problems to enhance our understanding and knowledge of our country,
inculcating history as the bedrock of Filipino identity. This course
will provide the principles and historical basis for the solution
of the social dilemmas mentioned above, and thus enable us to formulate
alternative policies more attuned toward improving the social condition
              of the Filipino people.
