December 27, 2002
I was gonna hold off announcing this until the new year but since my brother sneakily pre-empted me (and since most of our relatives and close friends know already), I might as well break the good news.
This is my Arn's pre-Christmas gift to me.
By this time next year, we'll be man and wife. (:
07:08 AM I'm 2 days behind but it's never too late for Christmas greetings, right? Hope you're all having a wonderful holiday season (:
*** It was terribly exhausting (I even got sick the second day) but Arn and I were happy enough to see all our friends from that field again. Since I don't have time to upload the bazillion pics I took, here's a little preview muna:
06:34 AM December 19, 2002 This month's Adarna House E-zine has a nice feature on Arn. [Go] As always, the UPCFA contingent made the Lantern Parade well worth the traffic and five-hour neck-straining ogling. Their theme this year? Superheroes, Pinoy and otherwise. The pics are right here. Please let me know if I identified all the characters right. (:
*** Then last night J and Halina gave Arn and me a chock-full-of-MP3s cd that, surprise, contains all the group's albums from '91 to '97, including some of their recordings as Sweet Chariots -- something I could never find at KaZaA or Amazon. What a treat! Grabe, thanks again you guys. I dedicate Sunkissed to you both. (:
10:38 AM December 17, 2002 How fun, my apple crumble-baking friend Naomi went a step further and has now also mastered the art of creating apple roses. And if you're thinking of preserving your precious flower arrangements* but have no idea how, please do check out Second Bloom. *this service is only available in Vancouver though, unless Naoms is in Manila for a visit (diba, Yo? (:)

*** ï The UP Lantern Parade. Tomorrow, 3 pm. ï Culture Crash's Comic Book and Anime Convention. Dec. 21+22 at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall. (Arnold will be there to judge a contest and sign copies of his books.) ï And of course, my dad's homecoming on Saturday!!! There's something else I really want to share but the timing's not quite right... not yet. (;

Philweavers Christmas Party-slash-3rd Anniversary General Assembly pix are up. [Go]
10:42 PM December 12, 2002 I only discovered the jazzy Manhattan Transfer-esque New York Voices after Arn requested that I download "Now or Never" for him via KaZaA. Now I'm hooked! We've so far collected 35 tracks from their various albums, burned select ones to a cd, and made that our official soundtrack for this Christmas season. You may listen to the loungey "Do You Wanna Know What I Want" here.
*** The Lantern Parade was very much a big deal to us Fine Arts folk, mainly because we had to live up to our college's decades-long reputation of having the best-designed costumes, floats and, well, lanterns in the University. Coincidentally, Lizza showed us her 5" thick college photo album at her house yesterday and there we found a couple of 1989 Lantern Parade pics of a silly-looking Cleopatra costume-garbed me and a reeeally thin boyish-looking un-costumed (daya!) Arn. We all didn't know each other at the time the photos were taken so it was a blast seeing them now and taking note that 11 years ago, we were all together pala at the same place and time.

*** *One is for Gerry and Ilyn's wedding in San Pablo City, Laguna, and the other is for my good friend Joan L and Joel's wedding in Nasugbu, Batangas. Congratulations, you guys. (:
10:40 AM December 4, 2002 Lots more Webbies pix are up at the HP photo gallery. *Thanks for the heads up, Carl.
*** Lomo? Wha--? [Go] Been thinking of getting one since I saw them cute toycams at the ICP shop in New York two years ago. I got turned off lang when I realized that accessories and service centers supporting lomography in Manila could be scarce. Besides, I swore to bid processing centers goodbye since my dad already got me a digicam. Still, it's worth checking out now that they're within reach.
*** IMHO, the problem with the local movie industry is that while there are young, talented writers and directors with fresh ideas, there are still the old-school producers to contend with. The sad fact is that they run the industry and usually have the last say.
We experienced this first-hand, believe me. (You can stop reading now, or...)
07:12 AM December 3, 2002 This year's Webbies was definitely more organized than last year's -- there were fewer speeches (heh), the category intros were short and quick, the actual award-giving was faster, and performances were livelier*. As a result, the entire show finished very early at 10:30, considering that it started 30 minutes late. *In fairness, we liked the bands who performed last year but they all chose to play slooow songs so the show dragged on for more than 3 hours.
It's not as grand as the Ad Congress Araw Awards nor the NU107RA (haha, no Pasay punks here at the PWA) but the good show was a sign that the Pinoy web industry is indeed "growing up".
*** ARTS: HalfProject, for us, you're still the best*. (pic stolen from HP, heh)
*Lopez Museum won. I liked Dark Elephant and PageDown (at least it won for People's Choice) too but I thought that HalfProject, being a collective, would be a shoo-in. Oh well. MUSIC: It's PhilMusic again, folks, for the 5th straight time. (Congrats to sir Jim & co.) NEW & ZINES: I'm proud of IndieFilipino (aba shemps kina Meg yan) for making it to the Finals but it's still admittedly a baby beside veteran greats MaArte and Generation Rice (which won, incidentally). PERSONAL: Cool, last year's winner Nikki (of Skylight) won again. Redberger and TaymMatsing are great sites too though so I'm sure it was a tough call. WEIRD & HUMOR: Aha, our bet KuboriKikiam won... and how! Mike's ultra-long spiel brought the house down, and will certainly go down in the history of the Pinoy Webbies. Watch the telecast and you'll see what I mean.

There should be more pictures courtesy of Carl (who was going around clicking away at people!) and AJ soon.
